Rowing Ireland is now inviting expressions of interest for the position of Athletes Director on the Rowing Ireland Board.

This important role is a key part of our governance reforms introduced in 2022, ensuring that the athlete voice remains central to decision-making across the organisation. The Athletes Director sits as a full member of the Board and plays a vital role in ensuring that athlete needs, interests and perspectives inform how Rowing Ireland operates and develops into the future.

About the Role
The Athletes Director will work closely with the Chair and Board to guide strategy implementation, strengthen governance, and support the continued growth of our sport. This is a valuable opportunity for a former Rowing Ireland athlete to help shape the future direction of rowing in Ireland and represent the athlete community at Board level.

Eligible candidates must:

  • Have represented Rowing Ireland at the Olympic or Paralympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, Coupe de la Jeunesse, or Home Internationals.
  • Not be competing for a team place in the current cycle.
  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time of election.
  • The Nominations Committee will review and confirm eligibility.
  • If multiple eligible candidates apply, an election will take place, with voting open to current athletes and former athletes who have retired within the last 12 years.

Commitment to Gender Balance
Rowing Ireland is required to maintain at least 40% representation of each gender on its Board. Based on current composition, the Athletes Director to be elected or appointed at this time will be a female candidate.

Time Commitment and Term

  • Approximately 8 Board meetings per year, held at Sport Ireland HQ or online.
  • Occasional meetings at alternate locations across the island.
  • Participation in one or more Board Committees.
  • A four-year term.
  • This is a voluntary role. Expenses are reimbursed in line with Rowing Ireland’s Travel & Subsistence Policy.
