Rowing Ireland is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for our junior athletes. This month, we are pleased to share Sport Ireland’s April Safeguarding Snippet, which focuses on raising awareness around eating disorders.

By promoting these important recommendations, we reaffirm our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of care and safeguarding in our sport.

For our junior members, it is essential to foster a positive and healthy culture around food, nutrition, and body image. Coaches, parents, and guardians all play a vital role in this effort.

Key Indicators of a Potential Eating Disorder:

Preoccupation with food or body weight

Avoidance of meals or restrictive eating patterns

Noticeable mood swings or social withdrawal

Gastrointestinal complaints, dizziness, and other physical symptoms

We encourage all members, coaches, and parents to review and familiarise themselves with the guidance provided in the document below. We also recommend that clubs share this information widely within their communities.

Together, we can help safeguard the health and well-being of our young athletes — both on and off the water.
