Following the semi-finals on Day 2 of the European Rowing Championships, two more Irish crews have secured places in the A Finals: the men’s double sculls (M2x) and the women’s single sculls (W1x). The men’s quadruple sculls (M4x) and the men’s pair (M2-) will race in the B Finals. Despite strong winds, crews capitalised on the conditions to post fast times on the water.
M2- | Daire Lynch & Ross Corrigan
Daire Lynch and Ross Corrigan faced fierce competition in their semi-final, including the Spanish pair who had recorded the fastest time in the heats. In a close race, the Irish crew finished fifth to qualify for the B Final with a time of 06:29.56. The crew made a strong push in the final 500 metres to overtake the Ukrainian crew.
B Final: Saturday, 31st May – 7:45am IST (Lane 5)
M2x | Fintan McCarthy & Konan Pazzaia
Fintan McCarthy and Konan Pazzaia finished second in the semi-final of the men’s double sculls. They raced against the Romanian crew, who broke their own European record set just the day before. The A Final will mark Konan’s first Senior A Final and Fintan’s first in the heavyweight class.
A Final: Saturday, 31st May – 10:40am IST (Lane 5)
M4x | Philip Doyle, Ronan Byrne, Adam Murphy & Andrew Sheehan
The men’s quadruple sculls crew finished fifth in a competitive semi-final, posting a time of 05:46.04. Despite a strong effort through the middle 1000 metres, they were unable to break into the top three positions required for an A Final spot. They will now race in the B Final on Sunday.
B Final: Sunday, 1st June – 7:35 am IST (Lane 5)
W1x | Fiona Murtagh
Fiona Murtagh continued her strong form in the women’s single sculls, winning her semi-final with a time of 07:18.97. She will face tough competition in the A Final, including Great Britain’s Lauren Henry, who set a new European record in the heats.
A Final: Sunday, 1st June – 10:13am IST (Lane 4)
