Last summer we ran a screening with our female members and found that 46% of those that responded were at risk of low energy availability. This can affect anyone (male and female), of any age, and at any level, and can have a negative impact on both sports performance and health (now and in the future).

In response to these findings, we have invited Dr. Sharon Madigan to host a webinar on energy availability. Sharon works with the Sport Ireland Institute and has a wealth of experience working with athletes of all levels, including our own High-Performance rowers. Having worked with athletes who have low energy availability, she is very aware of the warning signs and the effects it can have.

This webinar is free and open to all of our members, whether you are a competitive athlete, recreational rower, volunteer, coach or parent. It will take place over Zoom on Wednesday 2nd February at 7pm. To register, follow the link below.

Notes:

Energy availability is the amount of energy you have available for growth, development, and all other bodily functions after the energy required for exercise has been deducted.

Low energy availability occurs when someone doesn’t have enough energy to support these functions as well as their exercise or training
