An early finish today for Ireland as only two crews took to the water. It’s into the A/B Semi for Lydia Heaphy in the Lightweight Women’s Scull, and the Repechage for Katie and Steven in the PR2 Mixed Double.

The PR2 Mixed Double of Katie O’Brien and Steven McGowan, both Galway RC athletes, were up first in their heat. The top two crews get positions in the A Final, and the remaining crews will get another chance in the repechage on Thursday. The crew from Ireland just missed out, placing third in the heat behind Ukraine and the Netherlands. A slightly slower start than usual from Katie and Steven, had them in third position through the first quarter, making it difficult to break into those top two spots. There’s definitely more to come from the duo in Thursday’s Repechage.

Next up was Lydia Heaphy (Skibbereen RC) in the Repechage for the Lightweight Women’s Scull. Lydia narrowly missed out on the direct progression to the A/B Semi in her heat, finishing with the fourth fastest time out of the all of the heats. With a second place finish today she is into the A/B Semi that will take place on Thursday morning where she goes up against South Africa, Iran, Mexico, Romania and the Netherlands.
