“I couldn’t be prouder of our athletes and the entire team for their outstanding performance at the 2023 World Rowing Championships. This remarkable achievement, with seven crews securing their place at the Paris 2024 Olympics and four crews clinching medals, including two gold and two bronze, and two fourth places is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of our rowers, coaches, and support staff.
This is the largest number of boats that Ireland has qualified for an Olympic games at the World Championships, and with the Final Qualification Regatta in Lucerne next year we will hopefully secure some more.
Our journey to excellence has been marked by countless hours of hard work, determination, dedication, sacrifices, and a shared vision of success. As we look forward to the road ahead, our focus remains on continued growth and improvement. We need to enjoy the results and relax to then put everything in the draw and get back in the zone.
All the boats behind us are already reflecting and planning how to cover the gap. We will build on this success, fine-tuning our strategies, and raising our standards even higher as we prepare for the Paris Olympics. With the support of our dedicated athletes, coaches, and all those who believe in our mission, I am confident that Rowing Ireland will continue on this upward trajectory.
I want to give a big thanks to all the coaches: Dominic qualifying two boats and winning a gold with the LM2x and LW1x; Fran leading the men’s team and winning a bronze with the M2x; Nicolo’ coaching the M2- winning a bronze; Giuseppe leading the women’s team with Ashlee, qualifying two boats both finishing in fourth; David coaching the Para double that has also qualified for Paris. Thanks to Michael our team manager and the two Physios Heather and Orla, who are always there to help the team. Thanks also to Clara for her support from the media point of view.
