Two more Irish crews have secured their places in the A finals of the 2024 World Rowing Championships. After winning Sunday’s heat, all eyes were on the U23 Men’s double scull of Brian Colsh and Adam Murphy in today’s A/B semi-final. The pair faced tough competition from the Australian crew, which managed to maintain an early lead. With this being the fastest heat, it’s still all to play for in Friday’s final.
Andrew Sheehan also secured his spot in the U23 Men’s single scull final after placing third in the semi-final. After a podium finish in last year’s championships, Sheehan will be aiming for nothing less in Friday’s final.
The U23 Men’s quadruple scull of Shane Rafferty, Fergus Bryce, Donagh Claffey and Fionn O’Reilly narrowly missed out on a spot in the A final by just 0.02 seconds. By the halfway mark, there was nothing between the four leading crews. The Irish crew fought to the end, but the GB crew surged from the 500m mark to tip them at the line.
The first of the Rowing Ireland U19 crews also raced today. The JW2x of Moya Knowles and Anna Brennan had a fantastic opening performance, comfortably winning their heat to secure a spot in the A/B semi-final. Along with this, the JM4x of Michael McGrath, Rian Claffey, Jack Rafferty, and Sean Morris advanced to the A/B semi-final after a third-place finish in their heat.
