Rowing Ireland will host a Trial for Beach Sprints on the weekend of 2nd-3rd May 2026 at Worlds End,  Castleconnell, Co. Limerick.

Following a strong level of interest and a high number of PPT testing submissions and the cancellation of the 1st trial, it has been decided to split the trial across two days to ensure a smooth and fair competition environment for all athletes. At this stage we had planned to have a reduced number of triallists however with a postponed 1st trial we are still left with a large number, meaning that having a trial on a beach is not possible with multiple logistical factors including cost and tide and the non availability of Lough Rinn, hence we are keeping it to a water trial for this round.

A significant cut should be expected after this trial.

Trial Schedule

Saturday, 2 May – Senior & U23 Athletes

Sunday, 3 May– Junior Athletes

Trial Format

The trial will consist of on-water time trials, with both the start and finish taking place on the water. Each athlete will complete three attempts (same format as Lough Rinn). The fastest recorded time will count towards the official rankings on the day, the average of all three attempts will be used in the overall athlete analysis (ppt1, 2, and 3 etc.)

Entries & Eligibility

Entries will open shortly and must be submitted through Rowing Ireland’s Tracker System (€10 fee). Entry deadline: 7:00 pm, Thursday, 23 April. Eligible athletes are listed in the download section below. Only those athletes listed should enter the trial. If you do not enter on tracker you will be UNABLE to trial. All athletes must have submitted PPT1 or PPT2 as well as PPT3 by 1st April to remain eligible for selection.

Boats & Equipment

Athletes are asked to bring and use their own boats where possible. As Beach Sprint rowing continues to develop in Ireland, Rowing Ireland recognises that not all athletes currently have access to coastal boats. To support participation: There will be a limited option to rent boats from other clubs and to rent Swift boats through Rowing Ireland as these are limited we do request that any athlete who can bring their own boat does so.

This process will help ensure sufficient boat availability across the trial weekend.

Volunteers Required

Volunteers will be essential to the successful delivery of the trial. Parents and coaches who are available to assist are kindly asked to notify their club secretary, who will include volunteer availability in the coordination form circulated to clubs.

Further event information, including schedules and operational details, will be shared with entered athletes and clubs closer to the event.
