For the month of December, we are celebrating our fantastic rowing coaches from across the country! Each day we open the next door of our Coaches Advent Calendar to reveal a rowing coach, each with their unique story and motivations for coaching!

This year we have more than Three Wise Men on their way but 25 male and female coaches sharing their wise Top Tips for coaching! 

We hope you enjoy getting to know some new coaches from around the country as well as recognise some familiar faces!

For the month we want to focus on the great efforts of all our coaches and recognise the contribution they make to the athletes and the sport!

The latest Women on the Water Programme is open for sign ups in Dublin. This programme is a joint initiative by Rowing Ireland’s Women in Sport and Get Going Get Rowing . The programme aims to introduce adult women to rowing at a recreational level.

River and Coastal clubs are providing an 6 or 8-week programmes to female adult beginners. The programme is one session per week with a trained instructor.

The programme includes use of the rowing machine, progressing to on the water, introducing drills and exercises that will get you comfortable with the rowing stroke.

This programme is for adult females looking to start the sport recreationally. Participants must be over 18, but no one is too old to start! The following clubs are running the programme at the dates as follows:

This Halloween Weekend, the 30th of October, Rowing Ireland is hosting a 12km Return to Rowing Challenge from St. Michael’s Rowing Club, Limerick. The event will be fun-filled, with Halloween festive surprises and refreshments on site. The bar at Shannon Rowing Club will be open following the event. 

The event aims to encourage former rowers to reconnect with their clubs, and get back on the water with their former rowing crew mates. The event is open to coxed, coxless fours, quads, and 8+s. Crews entered can be mixed gender. Participants must be 18+.

To enter, each participant must register and complete payment of €30. This will include the entry to the event and an annual recreational rowing membership with Rowing Ireland. Both forms can be completed below. 

The team lead must complete the crew entry for the event before Friday 5pm, 22nd October.

The Rowing Ireland Recreational Rowing Committee are delighted to host a recreational rowing tour on the Liffey River, Dublin on the 25th of September, 2021. 

The row will start from Municipal Rowing Centre at 12.30pm on the Saturday afternoon. The group will go over the Islandbridge weir and down through Dublin City Center, passing under the 17 bridges – including the iconic O’Connell Bridge – and down to the Dublin docklands. We’ll take a short break at the 18th bridge – the East Link – now Thomas Clarke Bridge, to view the sights around Dublin’s North Wall docks and the Dodder River. Expected distance is 12km.

An ideal day trip for the experienced recreational rower. This is not a competitive event. Over 18’s only. 

Participants are welcome to join for post row, food and drink at the Strawberry Hall.

Places limited to 25 and will be allocated on a first come, first served (waiting list if oversubscribed).

All rowers must be registered with Rowing Ireland.
